Need help understanding certain part of video

in this video, 1:25 seconds in he states, press ALT and click the offset timer to then type out 1 into - 1? (idk what that means) but it's so blurry i don't know what the little symbol is or how to type it out.

Holding ALT and clicking on a stopwatch will open an expressions area for that property.  Expressions run a limited form of Javascript which means you can automate animation.  In this case, time*-1 will take the current time of the comp, turn it negative and use that value for that frame's value for the property.

He's typing time*-1 . You may want to read the online help on what expressions actually are, what they do and how they work.
