Question

Negative methods? (I tried channel combiner)

Hi!

Trying to create a negative effect in a black and white scene.

The background is a 80% black solid. There are two white text layers and one thick white path stoke.

I would like the text layers to become black, or 80% black, when they are over the white path, while staying white on the areas that are outside the path.

I tried using the Channel Combiner effect and it did work but only for one of the text layer. It won't work for both.

also, I think the negative text becomes 100% black and not 80%.

I guess I can precomp the two text layers together but I prefer not to.

Thanks

Tal

I would probably use set matte for this and duplicates of the text and forsake some elegance for more precise color control, but for calculation effect works fine for this also:

here's the project file for you to try it out:

inverttext.aep - Google Drive

Hey thanks a lot for the solution and the project file!

The Calculation works perfect for me.

BTW, I was in your course at Bezalel 2 or 3 years ago

If I understand you, I think the only thing you need to do is to change the transfer mode of your test layer to Difference. Check the attached image.

Properly placed Masks or Track Mattes using two text layers (one white, one black) should do the trick.
