New Camera Dolly Tool is Frustrating

Long time AE user here.

I like that we are finally seeing some TLC to the 3D side of AE but I'm not loving the new unified camera tool.

Previously the dolly tool was used to push straight in and out of a scene, in the direction the camera was pointing (you know like on tracks) now it picks a point under your cursor to "dolly to" instead of just moving in the direction the camera is pointing.

I suppose the new dolly behavior might be useful in some instances its very frustrating when you just want to change the "z axis" number of your camera and not have it also be changing the X and Y keyframes at the same time.

Is there a modifyer key or something I'm missing to bring back the old camera dolly behavior of just moving the Z number? 9 times out of 10 thats all I'm wanting from the camera dolly tool.

There are some options in Preferences/3D that can help. Once you get used to the tool it is extremely useful. Pressing the C key a number of times still cycles through the camera tools and you now have more options in the toolbar to control what does what. Explanations and even a short tutorial are available if you look for the new feature notes.

Same here, not enjoying the new tools and it feels clumsy to have to use the Z attribute to only move on Z. Can we please get the old tool back along side the new ones?

Maybe try going to the top of the interface layer/transform/auto orient and choose off.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. The workaround now is to just manually slide the Z position on the camera's z position keyframe but the new update basically made the camera tool usless for me.
