No audio in preview

No audio in preview 

 Ive done everything, ive uninstalled, reinstalled, gone through all audio related settings yet there is no way for audio to play, all the videos ive watched have not helped.
The audio doesn't play through any output device. Yes they all work and yes they aren't muted.

Can you convert any video in Adobe Media Encoder directly?  And if so, does it play with audio in that?

If not, try using VLC to convert the video and see if that works.  Some of these screen / game recording tools process the audio in ways After Effects cannot access.

What happens if you expand the audio properties on a layer until you can see the waveform?  Does it draw a waveform?

Can you import any audio file (MP3, WAV) and have it preview?

Check if you activate the audio from the preview panel

1. Check if the files have audio included by playing them with VLC or something.

2. Import an audio file into AE and play it to check your audio output.
