no footage

HI there, i'm fairly new to Ae, i'm trying to make a parallax scrolling animation of a hallway, but when i press play to preview the animation, there isn't any footage it shows me a blank grey screen with a still of the illustration in the middle??

    That grey screen is the area around your composition. It's just the After Effects UI. The still of the illustration is because you have not keyframed the illustration. The slider effect you have applied, my guess, is not connected to anything. That effect is used primarily for controlling expressions and I think you should brush up on the fundamentals first.

    To make it move you will want to keyframe the position of the PreComp OR parent the PreComp to the Null then keyframe the position of the null.
