Nothing works anymore

Question - WHY

I've lost about 3 years worth of custom made templates because of the enraging decision to remove QT 7 codec support. NOTHING works, to top it off, I have downloaded every single version of AE, and each one says "This project was created in After Effects Version 15 and cannot be opened", I download Version 15, and it still doesn't open.

Just thanks a lot I guess.

How could three years worth of templates all been created in v15?

Anyway, codec are not my strongest suit but I thought AE introduced native quicktime support a few versions ago?

Or did they remove it again?

I have the latest Version of AE and I have quicktime support but that may be because I have manually installed the quicktime 7 codecs on my WIndows 10 machine.

You can install just the codecs without the unsafe quicktime software.

Anyway.   If you think of any questions you'd like to ask people would be happy to try and help.  I didn't actually see any questions in your post.

I was frustrated, so there is no real question.

I started building the templates in CC2015, didn't upgrade to CC2017 for a while. At that point I converted them to cc2017 and everything was still working.

Somewhere along the way, everything got corrupted, it could be my fault, it could be the fact that I had 2 different versions of AE and PR on my machines.

The more I delve into it, the more it seems that RG Universe was a big part of the problem. I did have back ups of the files made months ago. Transferring those to a different machine gives me the same errors. I am completely at a loss as to what I did wrong, but at this point I have given up and will just create new files in cc2017.

Any idea why backed up files that have not been touched and were zipped would show the same errors as the files that all magically broke the same day ?

    Hello,

Have you tried to reinstall QuickTime player for Windows to open the project files? You use a Mac machine for test if you have one.
