Object path changing position?

I have an object and I have a path I'd like it to follow. So I past the path into the position of the object. Simple, right? Not so.

When I paste the path into the objects position, the object moves waaaay across the frame. I can see that the path I pasted in is there, it just moved across the screen with the object.

Why is this happening and what can I do to stop this?

Thanks,

Zach

Note that you can move the whole path after pasting by clicking the word Position in the left column of the timeline, which will select all position keyframes, then repositioning the path by dragging.

The path layer must be at 100% scale and the position, rotation, and anchor point must be at the default comp and layer center. Then a motion path will match the path. Scale or move the layer in any way and the motion path will not line up with the path you have copied. It's always been that way and it probably will always be because vector paths are based on the original layer size and position, not on the comp panel dimensions.

Thanks for the response. There was no scaling, moving or rotating anything. I imported from a 1920x1080 Illustrator file and was working in the comp made from that file. All of that siad, if I'm understanding you, I have to have everything (object, path, and respective anchor points) aligned to the center. Going on this, I made a new object and path and, centered everything and tried to paste the path to the object and it still moved diagonally. The move was less dramatic than before, but still off a bit.

Thanks again for the help, and if you have any other ideas it's super appreciated.
