Object tracking - Why is it way better in Premiere than in AE?

Why is the Object matte SO MUCH BETTER in Premiere than it is in AE? I feel like it should be the opposite. Its a welcome change from Roto brush, but hopefully it bogs down AE less soon. I am an AE lifer, with an AE tattoo, so I’m not complaining, just curious why its worse in AE.

Do you mean Mask Tracking? After Effects has had that for longer than Premiere and if we don't get a good mask track in Pr or Ae, we've had Mocha Ae on the After Effects side for a very, very long time.

For object tracking, that's still using Ae (via Ae's built-in tools or Mocha Ae) and using Dynamic Link back to Premiere.

Or maybe you mean Premiere's Object Mask Tool? Getting that in Premiere was unexpected and definitely seems like Ae territory, but having something like that directly in Premiere was a long time user request - so it happened.

The equivalent in Ae is the Object Matte Tool which is Roto Brush 4.0 that functions more or less the same as Pr's Object Mask Tool. Where Ae has a one up over Pr is that Ae also has the Refine Edge Tool.

I haven't noticed too much of a difference in performance. Do you have a clip that you can share that you're having trouble with?

Something to remember about the Object Matte Tool in After Effects is that we have to click the "Freeze" button once we're done with our matte pass. This locks in the mask that's been built across the Work Area into a static, cached matte. Some users skip this important step and that can definitely affect performance later if missed.

I was doing the same question!? WTF is it faster in premiere but in after effects it is 4x slower? Answer: Adobe doesn’t care!

    Why wouldn’t we care?

Do you have specific examples of what works better or worse? Sample projects? It’s actually the same backend for object matte, but AE extends it with Refine Edge, etc.
