Question

Opacity issue, everything turns red...

Hello! I'm working with what I think are quite basic elements in an AE project but something keeps happening that is really foxing me...

Every time I change the transparency of an object, regardless of what it is - precomp, solid, shape, text - as I change opacity the object goes through what seems to be some kind of blend with an underlying red, before finally at 100% becoming solid, and not showing this red at all. This is quite hard to describe but I am attaching a series of screenshots with the top layer at 100% opacity, 61%, 10% and finally 0%.

Within the pre-comp Eccho Rights ECW there is a further pre-comp, and within that there is a Keylight applied. If I switch it off, then I experience a strange phenomenum where the previously Keylighted part of the pre-comp fades to black as expected, but the remaining area continues to go through red (next image).

What am I missing team?? Very grateful for any help anyone can give!

The first thing I would do is start a new project, add a new comp using one of the presets, add a solid that is smaller than the comp so you can see the comp background, then change the opacity. If that works as expected then there is something going on with the footage (top layer) in your comp. If it doesn't work as expected make sure your version of AE is up to date, reboot, check your graphics drivers, trash your preferences so they get reset and try again.

If none of that works you should check the format of the footage, all modified properties of all layers and the comp settings. Every time I see unexpected behavior in a layer I press the U key twice to reveal all modified properties, press the E key twice to check all effects applied to the layer and check the properties of the footage in the project. Turning things off or resetting properties usually isolates the problem pretty quickly.
