Question

Open old project files in newer After Effects Version

So basically I have an older project file I want to use some assets from, which is made with After Effects 2019. Now I want to open this project file with After Effects 2020 but as soon as it loads up it says "Unnamed Project.aep" on the top where normally the file path is shown. Also, the Composition field is totally empty which means I basically opened a completely new Project.

Is there any fix for this issue or do I have to redo everything I did in the old Project File?

Best regards,

Restiix

In  4 years Adobe hasn't responded to this or acknowledged people who don't have enough $$$ to buy a Mac/Pc compatible to suit all Adobe's needs. All we are asking for is a solvable problem with converting ANY New AE Version to any older version needed. I think they charge enough for this to be available...

That's not what this post is about. This post is about opening a very old project (in my case circa 2009), in a current version of AE. I haven't seen an answer for that one either, for what it's worth.

You should be able to easily open older projects in newer AE and it should keep everything.

Could this older project be empty?

Have you tried resetting AE?

Hi. Have you tried closing AE, then double clicking the aep. file to see if it will open that way?
