Opening up a sensitive sequence without using PRECOMPOSE
Making things simple: You just finished 30 layers, each one 5 seconds long, and layer 1 overlaps layer two by two seconds and so on all the way to the end, when you realize you forgot 11. Because you did unique artwork in each layer, you just can't change all the numbers above 10. You instead need to SELECT layers 12-20 and slide them 5 sec to the right, which would open up a space for you to put eleven and its unique artwork. Yes your comp would now by 5 sec longer. No big deal. What is a big deal is trying to select layers 12-30 to slide them to the right KEEPING their 5 second length and 2 second overlap. Now image you have 75 layers instead of 30. You don't want to do this one at a time! And Precomposing layers 12-30, or 75 or whatever will louse up you layer lengths and over laps. and Un-precomposing (Ctrl-Shift R) seems to cause more problems than it solves. In everything else ADOBE you'd simply select layers 12 and higher make them a group and move the who shebang to the right by 5 seconds. But not in AE!!! This simple tasks seems to have turned into rocket science. Or maybe I am missing something. Never had good luck with Pre-Comps. Wouldn't expect to now becaue in the real world version of this there are effects and blending modes and so on and they would all get loused up in the Precompose > move the precomp 5 seconds, > unprecompose sequence. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thx,
Dave
