Particle overlay on text.

So, I was experimenting with CC Particle world 2 on After Effects. I was intending to make the background animated with a bokeh effect. Before I added the blur, the effect looked like a lava lamp.

I accidentally put it on the text so the white text had a lava lamp effect. (White text with a black liquid effect). It looked like an overlay, not via alpha matte or a mask. It was completely by accident and I'm not sure how to recreate that effect again.

Apologies if the details are vague. Has anyone got any solutions?
