playback stuck in 3 frame loop

hey all ––

whenever I try to preview footage/compositions, it will only playback 5 frames – and then loop those frames – even when just previewing a 1920x1080p video that's not being used in a composition. I've sorted through all the settings and have tried to free up as much RAM as possible (12 out of 16GB), but it seems like it's not caching or something, even though I've selected enable disk cache.

any advice??

hi Nishu,

I'm running After Effects 22.6 –– on a Macbook pro with 3.1 GHz Quad-Core i7, Intel 630 1536 MB, and 16GB RAM.

I've tried all of the recommendations in the article (adjusting the settings, purging the memory & disk cache) ... so was thinking that I'd install an older version of After Effects...

do you think that it might be something to do with the functionality of computer's hardware?
