Please help with editing stereoscopic (SBS) in AE

I want to import existing SBS footage and overlay 3D text, animations and other effects. I can not figure out how to make this work. Clearly AE is capable of displaying things in SBS, but no matter what I try I cant figure out how to have the left and right parts of an SBS video set up in AE so that it displays in 3D when you enter 3D glasses mode.

I followed one of the tutorials and quickly created an animation with a SBS 3D rig and output a file that can be viewed in 3D and the 3D editing for this is very smooth, but I want to be able to use this with existing SBS content. Can anyone think of a way to make this work?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

You need to create separate pre-comps for the left and right sides and place them in the respective top comps. This is all one huge hack more or less. AE has no way of doing this automatically for you.

Thank you for the response. I tried doing this and wasn't very successful. I did manage to get a SBS video to display in 3D by aligning the cameras just right, but it makes it so anything else added into the composition as a layer is way off and won't appear 3D because of the wierd camera positioning. Should I be using a different program? My main goal is to edit SBS footage and add text, 3D objects, effects etc. to the footage to create a final 3D sbs video with all those things in it. Does premier pro do this? What software allows native editing in 3D? (ideally with real time editing in 3D possible using a 3D monitor for example). Thank you!
