Question

Posterization-like effect happens when interpreting RAW image

I use my Canon EOS 600D to take photos in raw file format .CR2, and I like to do my post-processing on them using the interpret window that pops up allowing you to manipulate the image when you import them into after effects because I'm most comfortable with after effects.

Anyways, this has always worked fine for me until recently, for no apparent reason, whenever my images opens up in the interpret window they all have a slight posterization effect on them, and areas of shadow appear particularly dark. If I turn down contrast in an attempt to counteract this, the images seem "washed out".

What is even stranger is that when I click OK and finish close the interpret window and view the final image in after effects, these artefacts dissappear. This therefore might not seem like an issue, however it is impossible to do any post-processing work when you have no idea what the image will actually look like once imported.

The only thing which I changed, though I don't see how this could've caused the issue, is that my PC is always plugged into two separate monitors, one via HDMI and one via DVI, and I recently unplugged it from the HDMI monitor to connect something else to that monitor, and there were no apparent issues at the time, but the issue has only appeared after this.

One other important note is that when I tried to do my editing in Lightroom instead, these artefacts appeared once again.

To answer some of the more obvious possible solutions and most obvious questions:
I have tried re-installing after effects, I have tried installing older and newer versions, The issue is not with my monitor because everything else is displaying as normal, the issue is not with my camera as images which I previously had no issue with are now display these same problems. I have plugged my PC back into the 2nd HDMI monitor, with no other issues, I have tried re-installing after effects both with and without the 2nd monitor connected. The issue is definitely contained to adobe software as far as I can tell

Nevermind, I just fixed it. I re-calibrated my monitors in windows settings (I didn't actually change anything because they were calibrated fine already) and that seems to have fixed the problem.
