Presets not showing in After Effects

Question

A lot of simple presets that are supposed to come with AE are not showing up in after effects even with the effects and presets window enabled. Simple presets such as the typerwriter preset effect are not showing up when they have before. I currenlty have after effects 2020 version 17.0.0. I have a MacBook Pro, my software is currenty at macOS high sierra.

Start by checking the user permissions on the relevant folders, whether the files are actually there and if not accidentally there are duplicates which would throw off AE. Also check the options of the panel itself. If you have enabled a fildter liek e.g. only showing 32bpc effects, of course otehr things may not show up.
