Question

preview 10x faster than render ?

I'm having a strange issue with cc18.

when I preview at full-res full-quality my render time is X but if I then render the same comp (via the render queue) with the exact same settings it takes 10x longer ??

I can't think of anything that could be causing this, any suggestions as to what i could try would be greatly appreciated.

Resolution of the preview, format of the render??? Makes a difference.

Without knowing your exact settings and what's used nobody can tell you much. This could be anything from motionblur calculations to a GPU-driven effect reverting to software-only mode or whatever...

yeah sorry for the lack of details, I'd assumed it was going to be some kind of update bug.

so the comp is 128 layers all with a single mask (unanimated) and time remapping enabled (only 2 keyframes per layer)

all 2D layers are a video file (prores HQ), no effects, no scaling, no rotation, no movement, no nested comps, no motion blur, no frame blending, basically no animating values what so ever apart from the minimal time remapping. 8bit comp.

doing a full-res, full-size, full framerate preview takes about 4 mins. doing a render of the same thing (saving as prores HQ to SSD) takes 38 mins !!!

this is a workflow I have been using for literally years and the preview render speed has always been a good indicator of final render speed.

    confusing.

I'd stick with my initial guess and say that the GPU accelerated functions are being disabled - for whatever reason.
