Preview is floating and not displaying the entire picture - it is not in composition panel - AE2020

I just installed the new AE 2020 and when I try to preview the preview is not showing in a composition panel as it used to, but it shows like a somekind floating window that doesnt display the entire picture so I can't really see what Im doing... How do I get my preview to play in the composition panel?

See the screenshot - that thing on the right is my preview - its not even the entire picture and I cant make it to move or fit anywhere - tbh I just want it gone and preview like I used to in composition panel.

Yes, I had the floating preview problem when I came in this morning and couldn't figure out out to fix it (now I know it's a bug) so I decided to do a Creative Cloud update of my apps. Now I can't see my composition at all which means I can't get any work done. This is ridiculous.

I see. Please try these steps:

  • Clean media cache: Edit > Purge > All Memory and Disk Cache
  • Switch video renderer: File > Project Settings > Video Rendering and Effects > Use > Mercury Software Only > OK

Sorry for your preview glitches with After Effects. We are aware of this issue and After Effects engineering team is working on a fix. It is expected to be resolved in the upcoming release.

I'm learning After Effects and have the same problem – its really impossible to work with, my (partial) preview comes up when I hit the spacebar to play, and then I get a second kind of thumbnail bottom right of the composition panel with the main bit static. Keeping an eye on your query for help also.

I couldn't find a solution so I went back to 2019 version... Hopefully someone will figure out what went wrong in 2020...
