Question

preview lag/fps drop (mac)

Hello!
Okay, so I've been using after effects for some time now, and almost everything was good with it. But, lately, everytime i try to preview any of my old or current projects, the fps drop (not actual time), the preview lags and sometimes freeze, and even my mac heats up and glitch a little bit. I've been having this issue for over two weeks, and if someone could help, that would help me and, I'm sure, a lot of others too!

Thank you!

Hi Manel5EFB,

Thansk for writing in.

Could you share your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS) and details on your project? Also, let us know the details of the media (frame rate, frame size, format/codec) if you imported any.

We're here to help.

Thanks,

Nihsu

Start by cleaning out your caches and check your hardware acceleration settings. If caches get full, simple slowdowns in disk speed can cause this and then also verifying and actualyl using the caches can take longer than just re-rendering everything on the fly. Similalrly, even minor misconfigurations with the hardware accelerated stuff have been known to cause all sorts of weird issues, so check the settings in teh comp viewer, preview panel, preferences.

I tried to clean my caches out a lot of times and even re-install After Effects twice, but nothing works.
