preview not working

Question

when i press the space button, the timeline moves one frame back instead of playing the render and the cursor also changes to the hand tool. Also when i go to the "preview" column on the right and press the play button, it changes to a traingle with many lines behind it and then changes into a square.

please help with this i've been trying to solve this for many days now :((

If you press and hold the spacebar, that changes the pointer to a hand icon, to allow you to move the comp within the comp window (handy when you're zoomed in). Could your keyboard be sticking?

The play button with a triangle doesn't ring a bell, but the square is probably the stop playing button. Can you post a screenshot?
