Previewing is failing

Playing back a preview is nearly impossible. The playhead will move through the green areas, hit a blue section, then bounce immediately back to the start. It remains in this loop, never moving into the later frames -- never rendering blue sections to green. All I can do is constantly drag the playhead manually over blue areas to (hopefully) populate enough green frames so that the playhead will finally move through the whole movie.

Not a complete solution by any means, but potentially helpful: ditching all the plugins in Adobe Media Core folder (found  under Library, application support, Adobe, Common).  I'm not currently using any of the Maxon apps, so clearing them out seemed to help -- taking the issue from 'unbearable' to 'annoying'. Of course, that might not be practical for everyone. I have seen a variety of other playback issues people are having with AE. A bug fix might be in order.  I can say purging the cache did NOT make any sort of difference (unfortunately). Hopefully this post can help someone else who might be experiencing something similar... while we wait for a better solution. Good luck!

Hey jeffpluscontent,

 

Sorry about the issue. Some of your third-party plugins might be causing a memory leak. You could try moving the plugins back to the MediaCore folder one by one and check if one of those plugins is causing the problem. Let us know if you find anything. We'll let the engineering team know.

Without any info about your system, your project and its contents, preview settings and so on we can't tell you anything. Sorry, but what you wrote is not in any way useful to diagnose or even guess the problem, much less provide possible solutions.

Ventura OS, imac 3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

Latest AE.  The layers in the 1 minute movie are incredibly simple solids, with minimal effects.

I have used AE for many years, and never encountered anything like this, under any circumstances.
