PROBLEM: Need to define and render different areas of the same footage/comp

Hey guys,

I want to create reveals from ink drops that expand on white background. The footage I created is 4K, 60fps. Now I would like to define several areas in the same footage, which then either can be automatically transformed to a sub-comp each or directly be added to the render queue in the size of the marked area. Basically similar to Illustrator where you can add small canvases on top of a big canvas if you would like to export these smaller parts as an extra page in your pdf document. I would like to not have to manually duplicate and resize comps to fit a certain drop of ink, because it seems quite inefficient. Is there a known solution or workaround to this problem? I greatly appreciate any input you have and thank you for taking the time.

Have a productive day,

Silan

There's a 3rd Party script - https://aescripts.com/auto-crop/

It works by looking at a layer's Alpha Channel - you'll have to create one for your visual with Shift Channels and then Levels (Individual Channels). For Levels, you'll want to adjust Alpha Levels such that you get as clean an Alpha Channel as you require. You can then safe the combo of effects as an FFX for reuse.

The easiest and fastest I can think of is to duplicate the main comp, mark the area with "Region of Interest" and use Composition > Crop to ROI

Hey Martin, thanks a lot for your input. That is actually how I started to do it, but I was thinking perhaps there is some kind of tool, function or script, built in or sold, that would automate this to some extend.

The built in "function" would be to put each drop in a pre-comp, while creating the project. From here, it's just placing pre-comps in the render queue. If you want them all in one image, it's just placing pre-comp as layer into a main comp.
