Programmable / dynamic marker

Hello everyone,

Today I have a very special need and I am not really sure if a solution exist. So here is my request: since a few days I am working for my company on a set of several motion graphic compostions that will be used to show information on a screen network arround the building. Until now, informations and pictures were layed out with a PowerPoint presentation but it is not really modern and design, and since I work a lot with After Effects I was asked for replace this system with a video one. The idea is that the person who wants to display informations has to create a very simple PremierePro sequence where you put templates that I am currently creating using After Effects and Essentials Graphics.

At the moment my first layout is mostly done and I managed to create a comp where the user can verry easily insert text, images and even set the duration of the "slide" (using some expressions). But this last feature creates a tiny problem : as these templetes are designed to be used by someone who isn't likely to know very well video editing, I wanted the template to show a marker that the user could refer to know at which timing he should place the next "slide" so they chain perfeclty in time.

I saw on the Internet that expression can be triggered by a marker, but can we do opposite ? Could an expression create or move a marker arround a composition ? That was my first idea, but I don't think it is possible (but I am asking you anyway to be sure I'm not missing something).

If you guys know another way to make this editing easier, I would be really happy to know it 🙂

Have a nice day !

Same problem, a view non official solution but it works

Forget the horrible expression for moving.... Juste use  ease(time,inPoint+1,inPoint+3,[0],[360]);

Hope it helps

Could you try using a nested sequence with text prompts, to act as placeholders.  This would sit at the bottom of the sequence and have notes like: place slide #2 here.  Or alternatively, have each slide be its own sequence that the user just had to change the content for and then you have a master sequence which already has the others in it and ready to render out.

Maybe I'm projecting, but I've worked with non-video professionals before on stuff that sounds similar to this and honestly, they always find ways to ruin your planned workflow, from text in the wrong font, to images with watermarks etc...  It might be a simpler life for you to give them a powerpoint template and then export the slides yourself (at which point you can fix all the Comic Sans and Times New Romans)

Long and short: No. Otherwise it's not really clear what specifically you need, but perhaps the answer is in time-protected regions...
