ProRes 4444 from Cinema4d import error - strange error messages

When I render a Cinema 4d scene to ProRes4444 (16 bpc, including alpha), some renders are not recognized in the Adobe ecosystem - After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder.

Those apps simply say: ‘Could not open source file. Please check that file exists with
correct permissions. ( 86 :: 1)’, and then ‘After Effects error: file '[filename].mov' cannot be imported
this 'Moov' file is damaged or unsupported.’

Premiere Pro says: ‘We were unable to open the file on disk.’

Other apps can import/play it without complaints - DaVinci Resolve Quicktime Player, Elmedia Player, Final Video Player, VLC,

Does anyone encounters the same? Is there anyone who has a solution (other than workarounds)?

Once in a while this trouble reoccurs. Now in the lates After Effects 25.5.0, it's there again.

The .mov is ok, can be opened by any software except Adobe apps.

There seems to be a relation with the 'amount of alpha' in the video. If there is a lot of alpha, maybe the decompression algoritm Adobe uses fails.

The only workaround is rendering image sequences.

Hi jaydude-wb,

Thanks for writing in.

Is it happening with a particular file or any ProRes4444 file exported from Cinema 4D? What's the exact version of After Effects you're using? If possible, could you share the file with us to test? Feel free to DM me the download link.

Moving this post from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu
