PSD file displays in a different dimension in After Effect

Question

I have been having trouble importing psd files to AE! There's always a mismatch with my AE and PS file size.
I imported the psd file with the setting of Composition - Retain Layer Size/editable Layer Style
The file shows in After effect always goes beyond the original Canvas/Artboard size in photoshop.
For example, only the area with the pattern is within the artboard, but the composition setting dimension goes way beyond.

Wondering how could I solve this problem. Thanks a lot.

are you using PS artboards? Ae will reveal all the pixel information and not only the cropped. you should prepare you assets in Ps knowing that Artboards are not treated as the canvas->composition.

if you are not using Artboards then Ae composition dimensions will be your Ps canvas dimensions. if you set it to retain layer sizes - then the information that is cropped outside the canvas will be available. if you set it to composition - it will not.
