Puppet Pin not working AE 24.2 2022

Im clicking on my shape layer with my puppet pin tool and no pin is being dropped only some small annoying white box attached to the curser appears and I can do anything until I click off that layer! Ive screen recorded to help show... help!

This is really annoying and I can't work out what has happened. A time sensitive project for a client and Im constantly fighting with AE ... arrrghhhh!
