RAM preview play function not working even though clip is fully cached

Hello all,

 

My RAM preview in AE is not playing back even though it is fully cached / green in the timeline.  Sometimes this occurs within a few minutes, other times i can work for extended periods of time with no issues.  It's as if the playback button becomes disabled - i can still manualy scrub or key thru the timeline with the cursor and picture updates immediately, so there is no indication that it is out of ram. (i have 58 out of 64GB allocated in prefs) The timeline is always completely green.  No crashes occur.  Purge all command does not fix this - only a reset / relaunch of the app, restores playback functionality, but only temporarily.  

 

currently in AE version 23.4.0.  Tried an older version of 22 but the same problem occurs

 

Any help appreciated!

 

System: PC - Windows 11

Nvidia 4090 / Intel Core i9 13900K / 64GB ram

I see now that this is apparently a long standing issue with the audio hardware device output - and how certain devices / bluetooth sets will disrupt the playback if selected???

 

Very frustrating that after years this has not been adressed...one of the most unintuitive fixes I've ever seen.
