Hi All, I am completely new to AE and need some help as Ive googled and so on and cant find solution.

I have an issue when I import my Photoshop files into AE the layers have a black background. How can I get rid of the black background or stop this from happening. I am obviously doing something wrong with the way I am perhaps saving my photoshop files/layers?? Appreciate help. Many thanks in advance.

In addition to what the cactus said, these could also be specirfic issues with hardware acceleration not working and being unable to correctly render transparencies or unsupported PSD stuff indeed. Impossible to assess this, though, without any info about the documents and your system and its configuration.

Thanks Mylenium, I will take a closer look at all of this and let you know if I figure it out. Have a great day!

Layers with alpha channels generally import correctly, but maybe its the settings you've used or a quirk of this particular file.  A quick thing to check is in the Project panel, right-click on your layer and choose Interpret Footage.

In the pop-up which opens, for Alpha try either Straight or Pre-Multiplied.  That gets AE to not "guess" at the correct type to use and forces it to use the one you set.
