Refine Edge Tool

I have watched several tutorials about using the Refine Edge Tool and they all make it look so easy, but almost everytime I try and use it on hair, it chatters from frame to frame no matter what settings I use. The most success I have had is when the person's hair is against a white wall. Any ideas about what I might be missing?

I have tried using the Roto Brush and Refine Edge Tool in both 2K HD and 4K HD resolutions. The rather startling good results I had when the subject's head was against a white wall was just 2K HD resolution. In most of my efforts the subject was against mixed color backgrounds and even when the head hardly moved at all and lighting was constant, chattering occured in the Refine Edge area. I have gone from no settings in the Refine Edge Matte Chatter Reduction to Smoother 400% and combinations in between. I will try and set up a simple test and send you the AE file if that is alright?

Pilot error. Decontaminate Edge Colors was enabled and that caused the chattering.
