Renaming Master Comp breaks Expressions

Sometimes you want to rename your master comp, and that comp probably has your master controllers for linked expressions from other comps.

Sometimes, After Effects hits you with a bunch of errors when you rename the comp, and then you have to go and repair each expression (you can use the script find and replace in expressions to fix).

The faster solve is just to use AE Global Renamer to rename your master comp - it will work and keep your expressions intact.

I'm posting this as a little tip for posterity.

I've just purchased the plugin on your recommendation. So how does this work? You rename the comp (breaking the expressions temporarily), and then use the Global Renamer to search/replace the new comp name into all the expressions?

This is still a bug in AE Beta 24.3.0x30 (it's Feb.2024 now). In my comp, I did a "copy with relative Property Links" and pasted the layer (so it has a load of "thisComp.layer...." expressions - the comp's actual name is never mentioned in the expressions. It was all working fine until I renamed the comp in the Project Panel, and then all my expressions broke. Just going through each one and hitting Enter to re-enter the same expression fixed it...but it's a bit of a pain!

I'm not using any Essential Graphics or mogrts at all in this project.

(I think I reported this bug a few years ago).
