Render Queue without MP4 ?

Hey ,

today I had a bad experience with the new version of AE!

I made an reader of a slide show and I used my MP4 presets that´s there since I generated it in 2005?

So after the render was finished I find out that my movie is 50 GB big! And that it´s a QT in Animation Codec.

Why did you skip mp4 out of the render queue? While it still is available in the Media Encoder?

This makes no sense!

Can someone explain this?

And why don´t I get a warning that I am going to generate a 100 times bigger file then I am expecting.

I had so much luck that the hard drive of my Laptop had the amount of space .....

This is very irritating! And I haven't read it or seen it in the "What´s new" notes which I always try to read.

Sorry, but I don´t get it. If you are loosing a codec so why don´t we emulate the code in some way for those people

that need the codec?

Anybody have some thoughts on this topic or am I a little bit to silly?

So after the render was finished I find out that my movie is 50 GB big! And that it´s a QT in Animation Codec.

you should have gotten a warning that your output module preset is missing. Ae probably reverted to the default output module which is Quicktime Animation, a good old codec that is lossless and is not intended for playback.

Why did you skip mp4 out of the render queue? While it still is available in the Media Encoder?

Adobe has removed the Quicktime legacy Codecs. this includes the H.264 codec of the Quicktime container which was there in Ae for a long time. in AME, the H.264 codec is wrapped in an Mpeg 4 container (mp4) and is still there and gives better results in size/quality over the Mov container. if you want to export an mp4 file you can send it to AME. Basics of rendering and exporting in After Effects CC

if you want to do it in Ae, there's a plugin called aftercodecs that allowes you to do that. it has a trial that gives you free 720p encoding of mp4, or 500 frames. AfterCodecs - aescripts + aeplugins - aescripts.com

    But still I would prefer that we could still render a MP4 inside of AE.
