Render Won't Hold

In After Effects CC 2017, whenever I try to render over 20 seconds of clips and it partially does but won't hold. I play and it skips and slows. I can't find anyone with the same issue. This has happened to me before with different file sizes and sources.

Yes, you're running out of RAM. You're also likely seeing a blue bar over areas that lose their green bar. This means that those frames have been offloaded to the disk cache.

What are the dimensions of your comp? Are you stacking a lot of effects, working in 16 or 32-bpc, or do you have a ton of layers that you're compositing?

Do you mean that you get a green bar, but after 20 seconds the beginning of the green bar starts to disappear as more frames render? If so, that means you don't have enough RAM to cache your timeline. If not, can you please post a screen recording and your computer specs?

yes, that's what i mean. I'm pretty sure I have 16 GB of RAM on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012, Processor is 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3). Could RAM be the problem?

Render won't hold?  What does that mean?
