Run AE on older NVidia cards on OpenCL

guys, you know how the latest AE needs for NVidia cards a minimum driver version.

so if you have an older NVidia card with older driver version AE will simply say "no video card detected, will run in software mode".

why can't the older nvidia cards run on Open CL? since you know..it's "open"?
i understood that AMD cards run on Open CL. why can't an older nvidia run on Open CL?

i am not an expert so ^that might make no sense.

but as a non expert i must ask this..

Any hardware acceleration is tied to specific prerequisites like available VRAM, shader units/ steps, memory allocation patterns, buffer siztes and a million other things. Older hardware may simply not support these features, the vendor may not support it with their graphics driver and/ or the effort needed to implement functions would not be worth it. Take your pick and feel free to nerd out researching the subject further. Suffice it to say it's not that simple.

hi, and thanks for the quick reply.

i am curious if this minimum driver version is something that came up recently or does it go a long way back?

needles to say - i started this topic fueled by frustration - "you need to get newer hardware to run this software".

i get it that stuff 'evolves' but from evolving to 'cannot use this card' sounds very marketingy.

i mean, do newer graphics card have absolutely nothing in common to older ones?
it was a doomed topic from the start, cause i cannot change anything, it is how it is, i was just wondering if maybe there was a way to run stuff on older nvidia cards.

guess not 🙂
