Question

Same project different colors on Mac vs PC (not different monitors issue!)

Hi, I am trying to figure out this issue:

I've created a project on my office Mac workstation. Then I moved to my PC, opened the same project, but the colors in preview and renders are different. I know that each monitor, video player, system show colors differently but the renders are actually different. See the screenshot: left - rendered on Mac, right - rendered on Windows machine. Both viewed on PC with the same player.

I would really appreciate any tips on how to prevent this, what is the possible cause, etc.

Thanks!

Martin

Are you rendering the same format, for example pro-res on both machines because that will change the color?

Rendering with my same export preset synchronized with creative cloud. But as I mentioned before - I don't have a problem with the difference between AE preview and render.

Without exact info on the pertinent details this isn't going anywhere, I'm afraid - anything from footage interpretation to actual monito profiles. And jsut in case this is really a rendering error, start by turning off GPU acceleration.

I had working space set to none on both machines in this project, so I'm assuming that's where I made a mistake? On the other hand, I have monitor color profile set to sRGB on both machines (unfortunately I can't check that to be 100% sure for Mac right now).

What I see in preview, I also render. So there is no difference between the preview and rendered footage on my PC.

So to summarise it somehow:

Mac AE preview colors == Mac rendered footage colors, PC AE preview colors == PC rendered footage colors

Working space - none on both machines, no changes in the project settings between both machines

Monitor color profiles set to: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (both Mac and PC monitor, unfortunately, can't check that on Mac now)

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the color managements pipelines, so forgive me If I'm missing something obvious, I'm still learning :). Thanks!

I'm having a color shift issue myself: Export looks washed out - Adobe Support Community - 11854998

...although they are admittedly different issues since my color shift occurs depending on what media player I view my exports on and yours has something to do with the export itself but maybe we can help eachother.

I noticed that if you are using a Working Space set to None you have the option of choosing the Assumed Working Gamma in the AE Project Settings, either 2.2 or 2.4. Is it possible the Assumed Working Gamma is set differently on your Mac and PC?

Can I ask what media player you're using to watch your content on Windows after exporting?

Are the After Effects color management settings and preferences the same on both machines? Is the render from identical projects or have any other settings changed? What Adobe Media Encoder presets were used to render each video? Were these identical?

Yes, project and all color management settings are the same on both machines, that's what confuses me. I have that project on external SSD and just opening the same file on different machines. Or are there any After Effect settings that are not project dependent that could cause this?
