Save function not working

Hi, working on a project at the moment that is currently usnsaved. My After Effects is up to date.

When i go 'File > Save' or 'File > Save as > Save as' nothing happens. This is the same for when i use the save shortcuts.

I have also tried to use the collect files function to make a save as it prompts a save but nothing happened again.

I have ensured that all AE windows are showing, nothing is coming up. It's really important that i don't lose this file.

Would you reset the prefereces setting?

Would this be the case? I have only had AE installed on this machine for a matter of days - have installed no plug ins or anything of the sort, is there anything else i can try that wouldnt necessitate closing the project file, i really don't want to lose it.
