Question

saving as OBJ file

I have a 3D scan (human figure) OBJ file, and I have uploaded to AE/4D cinema to edit out backgrounds bits.

I want to save as an OBJ so I can upload to Mixamo. I cannot see how to do this.

Hi Jeanne,

Thanks for writing in. Do you mind sharing more details? Are you having trouble exporting from Cinema 4D or with importing into Mixamo? Are there any error messages?

Let us know.

Thanks,
Nishu

Screenshot here of my project in AE Beta and error in Mixamo.

First, I tried to upload my polycam scan into mixamo, but got an timeout error (disappearing msg), along with "Sorry, unable to map your existing skeleton" see screenshot. My assumption is that the background junk is getting in the way of it being recognized as a body?

So looking at a tool to clean up--PS, AE, Substance? I've tried them all. The only thing that seemed to work is using cinema4D to cleanup the excess. I can't see my changes in AE though.

Mixamo auto rigger needs one of: FBX, OBJ, ZIP. file.

I tried clean up in PS, there are no options to save as an OBJ. I tried AE with C4D and was able to edit and clean the background from the figurein C4D, but again it will only save as C4D.

I'm sure I am missing some steps as to how to export in AE?

I've not tried to do clean up outside C4D (full version), and that used to have exports to OBJ as an option.  If you're in C4D Lite, then your best bet might be Blender.  Its free, open-source but a huge initial learning curve.

My wife learned it first, then endlessly answered my questions as I wrote a series of videos about using Blender from an AE perspective.  It might help:
