Question

Screen Tearing with 4K compositions with iGPU devices.

Hi all, weird quirk I've run into that makes working with 4K sequences a total headache.

Issue:

  • Internal displays (connected via iGPU) on the laptop introduce artifacting when a composition is a 4K composition.
  • This seems to occur with high resolution compositions as at the time of writing this have tested with 1080p@30fps and 4K@30fps .
  • Screen tearing is not an issue at either of these resolutions when connected to an external display (HDMI port is wired to dGPU).

Attempted solutions:

  • I have tried disabling hardware acceleration and forcing V-Sync through the Nvidia Control Panel and Intel Graphics Command Center in addition to switching from dGPU to iGPU execution for After Effects.
  • Additionally have tried out different versions of After Effects v18-v22 and issue persists.

Steps to reproduce:

  • This can be reproduced with a single layer moving positions at any speed on a 4K@30fps composition an internal screen of a laptop.

Specs:

ASUS UX582HS-XH99T

i9-11900H (8c/16t) [Driver 30.0.101.1404]

RTX 3080 Mobile [Driver 512.15]

32GB DDR4 RAM

1TB NVMe Drive

Windows 11 Pro [10.0.22000]

Are there any other Windows users with a laptop that can replicate this issue?

Advice appreciated.

Thanks.

m

Update:

Ran a support session with Adobe and turns out this is an issue with CC 2021/CC 2022 After Effects.

The temporary solution is rolling back to After Effects CC 2020 which is not available to download for regular users.

Was notified this would get fixed in a future update, hesitant but fingers crossed.
