Question

Scrub Cache VS Play Cache

Hey all,

When it comes to caching frames.  Why is it that if I drag the CTI back and forth across the area I want to cache, the green bar fills in & the frames can be ready to play at real time in just a few seconds.  Whereas if I just hit play and let the frames cache one at a time the same area could take 100x as long (if not more) to cache?

I'm just wondering.

    That's a good question. Possibly a workflow Pro-Tip there...

Does it cache it at a lower resolution when you're scrubbing around?

Usually the preview doesn't update at all while Im scrubbing.   Once the bar fills in it plays real time at full rez. or whatever my resolution settings are at.   It seems to my layman brain that if it can cache that fast while scrubbing it should be able to do the same just hitting play.
