"Seems you have an uncollapsible layer! It will be un-collapsed for you."

Hello,

I can't get a project open. It gets about 76% of the way there, then I get a pop up that says "Seems you have an uncollapsible layer! It will be un-collapsed for you." I have clicked it about a hundred times and it will not go away.

I recently upgraded to the latest version of AE.

Anybody have any ideas how I can get around this? I cannot get into my project.

Hi michaelcwelch,

Sorry for your issue.

Did you use any third-party plug-ins in the project? Do you mind sharing the project here (or you can share a download link via DM) to check at our end?

I was testing a project that generated same error and I had to click OK for about 400 times to get the project opened. Resaving the project solved the problem. Here's the link to that thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/seems-you-have-an-uncollapsible-layer-error-but-can-t-do-anything/td-p/12354225

I'd appreciate if you could share the project file so that we can try to find what caused the error in the first place.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu

I have the same issue. I actaully am starting to hate working within After Effects due to so many issues. I think I sppend 20% of my time overall fixing issues with every project. Please can someone from Adobe fix this issue or at the very least, tell us what version to roll back to.

Nishu,

I updated my OS. Updated to the newest version of AE. I then re-imported it into a new project and I got the same error. (Thanks for the solid advice Rick, in my own panic I didn't think to do that).

Clicking it 400 times seemed to do the trick. Thank you. Where do you want me to send the project?

You guys really need to stop releasing builds so early.

No plug ins by the way.

Does AE stop working or will the comp open? It is pretty hard to tell what is going on if we can't see the modified properties of the layer or know what kind of source files you are using in the comp.

Things you can try if AE will not open the project.

  1. Turn on Caps Lock before you import a file or open one to prevent AE from trying to render then find all modified properties of all layers by pressing the 'u' key twice and start turning off effects and turning off layers. Then Release the Caps Lock key and start turning on layers one at a time and effects, one at a time, until you find the problem.
  2. Import the AEP file instead of opening it, then start with the nested comps and use the Caps Lock key trick to find potential problems.

If you can't figure things out embed a screenshot*  so we can see what is going on.
