Selection Error in after effects

Hello,

I am learning how to rig and animate in after effects. However, I encountered a problem where I am trying to move the character from one side of the screen by highlighting all components then moving them. Everytime I do that, the hand goes in a different direction and my character starts to come apart. I've attached a screen record to show what I mean. Help!!

To do what Rick has suggested. Select all of the layers, then go to Layer>Precompose. Choose to "Move all attributes" Name it Character comp and then click OK. Now you can animate this single layer moving across the screen. If you need to get access to the individual layers again, just double-click on the Character comp to open it.

Rigged characters are typically pre-composed, then you animate the position of the pre-comp. That's pretty much standard workflow for inverse kinematics animation and it is a must if you use Puppet Pin.
