Sequence help please

I'm quite new to AE. I have made an image sequence. I would like it to be a slow ( dreamy) transition from one image to another. I would like each image to play for 30fps. I've played with the sequence settings ( overlap, duration from 1fps to 25fps, transition- off, dissolve front, cross dissolve) and everything I've tried gives me a jerky transition with a black fade somewhere in the transition.
It's fine in iMovie, tempted to just do it there but wanted to use some AE magic.  Or shall I make a video in iMovie and edit it in AE?  Any help appreciated. It's probably obvious to you guys!

Thanks in advance

I'm just replying to my own question in case anyone else has the problem that I have now solved. When I altered the timing of my sequence, AE kept all the earlier keyframes so that there were several sets on each image which caused a sort of frenzy of transitions. I have tried it several times now and AE does it every time I try different time options. Obvoiusly the answer is to delete all keyframes everytime you change the options. For reference I have everything up to date and according to adobe my set up is correct and the spec is fine.

Hope this helps someone, because it drove me nuts!
