Question

Set comp and all subcomps to 3D layer?

I have created a BG in photoshop to be used in the 3D camera in AE.

There are several layers and folders in the psd -file so there will be many subcomps.

As I understand it you need to make all layers into 3D layers to work in the camera view.
Is there a way to mark a layer in a comp and it's subcomps in an easy way.

best regards

you don't have to set 3D in the subcomps if you don't need the transformations or blend modes and effects inside to pass through. if that's the case simply make sure the collapse switch (sunburst icon) is no turned on for the precomps and just make only them 3D.

maybe there's a script for that. some googling is required maybe it will find something.

    Thanks.

I just want to put the comps/layer in z level depth. Sometimes I some layer dont move along when I change position but maybe it's the comps that always needs to set to 3D, not the layers . I check this out.

If you have a bunch of layers in nested comps that you want to make 3D just select them all and click the switch. It will take about half a second. If you have a bunch of layers in the same Z space layer order can be extremely critical and moving the camera around can cause a bunch of rendering problems. Be careful of that.

When Collapse Transformations is turned on all 3D layers in a nested comp react to the camera and lights in the main comp. Any camera or light in a nested comp (pre-comp) will be ignored.

Making a nested comp a 3D layer does not make the individual layers in the nested comp 3D, it changes them all to one 3D layer and this could foul up a lot of animations.

If you are confused by any of this I strongly suggest that you spend some serious time with the User Guide learning how AE's unique 3D world works. It's very easy to get lost if you don't do your homework.
