shape layers

Question

how its differemt and what are the difference in results between following two

1 adding new shapes by adding a shape layer in the timeline panel by right clicking

2 adding a shape layer from the menu bar present upper corner in the after effects window

please help !!

By making a shape from the timeline, you won't get anything automatically. It's just a plain shape layer, so if you want to add a circle to it, you can do that without having any other layers inside it. I tend to use the toolbar's shape layer button. I can drag my shapes onto the screen how I want, or double click the shape layer button to fill/stroke the entire composition.
