Question

Shape Paths are huge px values in transform properties– but tiny in the composition.

Disclaimer, no0b but one who diligently scours forums and guidelines for help before posting. So be gentle pls : )

Attached screen grabs for context.

Comp is standard size (1920x1080px)

Shape Paths are large px values in properties in relation to comp (eg. 750px) – but tiny in the compostion. I do want them to look like they appear in composition – just wondering what mistake I've made to have transform property values SO out of whack as it's slowing everything down.

I'm beyond stumped and don't even know what to google.

Help so, so much appreciated!

TY!

3D layers can look tiny when viewwed from afar - for obvious reasons. Hence it's always good practice to create an actual camera layer for spatial orientation and consistency. The rest is still unclear. I'm also confused what you mean by "3D effects". Using effects on 3D layers may affect rendering order and could effectively also interfere with your scale. The old thing of continuous rasterization on vector layers vs. 3D having its own confusing rules. Anyway, as Rick said, it would be helpful if the actual properties were revealed or indeed would create a camera layer and check the resulting settings derived from the virtual invisible default camera. You could indeed quite literally simply be zoomed out from space...

When you are preparing your screenshots always select the problem layer and press 'uu' to reveal all modified properties.

Please describe your workflow in detail. If you are following a tutorial we need a link to the tutorial.

The uploaded screenshots show multiple objects in the frame but we don't know anything about the other modified properties. Rectangle Path 1/Size shows 774, 774 but I don't see the scale properties of Rectangle Path 1 or the shape layer. I see an outline of a small rectangle with no fill. I have no idea what is going on with that layer.

It's the same with the other images. Select one of the layers, press UU to reveal all modified properties, then show us the screenshot or start resetting things.

If all else fails, start a new comp, create a new shape layer, reveal all modified properties, and start checking things out.

If you work with 3D layers, start by actually creating a camera layer and position it where you want in the scene.

Hi Mylenium,

Is that the root cause of my issue or are you just making a passive comment?

I'm following a Jake Barlett tutorial, and as advised for those layers, applied 3D effects.

The issue I'm asking about is actually on different layers, unaffected by the 3D styling:

Thought as I was a beginner this query would be an obvious and easy solve but I guess not : (

Sometimes begginer question are the most difficult to answer because of fundamentals & terminology.  For example: many begginers confuse the terms Previewing with Rendering.

Or as Myl mentioned he didn't understand what you meant by the term "3D effect" as effects are generally though of as a specific categaory of things.

This is not any fault or failure of a new user..it's just something that takes time.  Like learning any new language, at first communication is difficult.  This is why new users are constantly being asked for system info and screenshots with nothing hidden and very specific workflows desctiprion.  These things are asked for so wee can try see the problem, rather than have to rely on a new users description of the problem, which is quite often more confusing than helpful.

There's also the issue of not knowing what we don't know. For example, I didn't even know shape layers had size attributes.  It must be something very specific to your workflow, which is why workflow is important.  So I stand to learn something from this thread that I didn't even know i didn't know.

Eg, here is a 1920x1080px Rectangle Path in my 1920x1080px composition:
