Without exact info about your Mac, your version of AE, your color management settings and so on we can't really tell you much. Just saying that it crashes isn't that useful.

 crashes when i choose - rec 709 under the view- simulation menu

also crashed in prev 2023 version
beachballs in 2022 -and i have to force quit

Does it happen on a new project as well? Could you try switching the renderer to Mercury Software Only in the Project Settings? Do you see any crash reports?
