Question

Slow purge and saving on a SSD

Hi,

My After effects projects are slow to save sometimes taking as long as 20 minutes on an SSD. I am getting a very similar issue when purging my cache.

The issue is super strange as if I open a window in front of AE the saving bar or purge bar shoots up. So when I save I have to open a window in front of the AE so decrease the save time from 20 mins to 1 min.

Hopefully, someone has come across a similar problem before.

Many thanks

Windows or Mac?  Is the OS stored on the same dsrive as your project?

Is the SSD an internal drive?  If it's external, how is it connected?  USB 2?  USB 3?

Does the problem occur if you save to a different drive?

Are the footage resources used in the project stored on the same drive?

What is the saved size of the project?

Its a Windows machine.

The SSD is samsung evo internal drive

The problem happens regardless of what hard drive is being used.

I have collected all the footage into one place on the same hard drive and the problem still persists.

The project I am testing is 19.9 MB. Hoverer its happening on all my projects

Did you see my comment about opening a window speeds up the save? I Did the following test below.

If I click save without touching anything its taking 7 minutes to save

If I hit save and open a window in front of AE it only takes 3 seconds to save

Do you know why is this the case?

Without exact system info we can't really tell you much, but to be honest this very much sounds like an issue with your storage driver or the SSD breaking down and the controller not being able to reorganize the memory blocks fast enough due to potentialyl a lopt of already burnt-out memory cells. Could of course be a million other things and I'm merely speculating, so by all means give us soem exact info for a better answer.

What happens when you save your project in another Hard Drive?

Try to check:

- SSD Firmware to latest version

- You are using the latest controllers for your drive.
