Hi,

I can't make the spot light to work, it just turns my text to black.. I can't see the 3D widget to make distance adjustments, falloff is set to none. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Try this. Select your light, hold down the Shift key, and then parent the light to the Text layer. This will snap the light into the same position as the 3D text layer. You should then be able to open up the position property and drag the Z value back until the light is falling on the text. You can then easily adjust the position of the light by using multiple views.

Parallel light will look more like the sun than Point Light or Spot Light. You can also Shift + parent the light to the camera, then release the parenting, and adjust the position of the light.

Thank you Rick, this also helps 🙂

Reveal the numerical properties and check where your spotlight actualyl is. 3D tracking produces inconsistent values and your light could simply be a mile off or super tiny in relation to the scene.

I copyed the position values of my text object to position values of the spot light and the 3D widget finally appeared 🙂 Thank you!
