Stitching 360 video in After Effects / Premiere

Im getting my hands on to an old project from 7 years ago (yes, a long long time) and I have stumbled upon a problem. At that time we filmed videos with borrowed GoPro Omni 360 degree camera and now it seems I won't be able to convert / stitch the videos to a 360-video.

Omni filmed videos to 6 different cameras so in each camera I have seperate videofile that needs to be stitched and synced up. All the feed from the 6 camera are in seperate files. Is there a way to do stitch the files together in After Effects / Premiere? A plugin? I tried to search guides but they all seem to be using softwares with a high pricetag.

Back in the day I used software called Kava Autopano but it seems its not available anymore and the licence keys dont work. It did the stitching wonderfully but I haven't found a similar app, just need two videos to be stitched.

That's an interesting challenge.  Given that you have 6 cameras, I think what I'd do is recreate the scene using AE's VR environment.

  • Create a new VR master comp (Composition > VR)
  • use that VR comp to generate VR output.  This script will create 6 comps with corresponding camera views and two comps switching them together.  If you now ignore the master comp and drop your GoPro views in to camera comps and the output comps should show the stitched together 360.

That may sound convoluted, but I think it's the quickest way to get there. If nothing else, should highlight the process and effects required.
