Question

System comparability won't let me start AE

My pc is too old to take the required vido driver but I could still do everything I need without the features I lose. I use to be able to pull the System Compatability window up a bit and  click continue but now the window won't move allowing me to access AE and I wind up having to do CTL-ALT-DEL to kill AE. I can't even get into the program to disable the Compatability window at startup.

 

I got the full package and use Audition and Premiere but without AE the magic's gone.

 

Suggestions?

Ahhhh.... I'm in heaven!   <ESC>. key!   Why didn't I try this months ago!  At least in tried up upgrading from 18.0 (which was working) to 18.1, hit same old problem but thought of hitting the ESC key. I'll try upgrading further and hope that keeps on working.

Open the Creative Cloud app, go to the All Apps page, click on the three little dots to the right of the Open button for After Effects, and select Other Versions. 

 

Try rolling back to a previous build or a previous version. 

 

Let us know if your system is too old for the versions available through the Creative Cloud app. There are earlier versions available for download. Somebody will post a link.

Thank you for your advice. I've already rolled back to earliest version available in the cloud, 18.0. This is the only version to work so at least I have that. There seems to be a bug with fractal noise but I've found a work around. The start up problem makes me crazy though. If I could replace the file that holds the preference  that turns off  the compatability report I'd be fine.

Without any exact system information we can't tell you much. This may simply be down to a very specific function call failing and the panle coming up again and again. Perhaps it can be cheated by updating a driver or hacking a configuration, perhaps it cannot. Either way, you have to be much more specific.

Sorry. Below is my system information. The earlist version, AE 18.0 seems to run but any attempt to upgrade above this fails.... sometimes they work for a day or two then I get trapped again by the System Compatability report. 

 

There must be a configuratin file that holds the preferences settings, specifically the one that tuns off the compatability report showing at startup. If this could be changed it would seemingly solve my problem.
