Question

System Requirements - RAM

Hi Guys

I have just bought a laptop to upgrade my current Dell, which I use when I'm in the field. That is primarily editing in PPr (HDV, not 4K), but I do some work in Ae when travelling as well. The laptop is good overall VFM and meets all my basic needs as well as system requirements, except for RAM.

It has the minimum 16gb RAM installed and I am having it upgraded to 32gb. But I have just heard from my supplier they have hit a problem with running the laptop with a 32gb memory board. They are calling in slower memory boards as the manufacturer says it should work with 32gb. But if that doesn't work I will have a choice of  some money back for the smaller RAM or my money back on the machine.

My Dell has 16gb and I can work with Ae 17.0.5 comfortably - even with RedGiant plug-ins. I can also do basic AE on my Surface Pro 4, with only 8GB. But I wonder how dangerous it would be at this stage to go ahead with 16GB of RAM?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

What CPU and what motherboard do you use? The memory performance depends upon the specification.

Hi, thanks. Sorry for the delay (the mail notification went astray into a spam folder...)

The CPU is an Intel® Core™ i7-8750H (2.2 GHz base frequency, up to 4.1 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 9 MB cache, 6 cores. I am finding out about the exact motherboard model and will update later.

As far as I see the link below, your CPU supports the memory size upto 64GB. The memory channel is 2. The best performance would be 32BG x2 if your motherboard supports 32GB memory.

The CPU also has Intel UHD Graphics 630. It is better if you find the updater of the graphic driver.
